Join a seniors activity group. Here are some ideas for your list that are fun and rewarding.
Take A Dance Class
There are a number of different dance types you could try – Ballroom, Latin, Jazz, Zumba, Contemporary.
to find out more visit Community Dance or try ballet as a Silver Swan at the Royal Academy of Dance.
Amateur Dramatics
Drama groups come in all different ages and sizes. It’s a very social activity and even if you fail to land a part initially there’s plenty to do offstage. Just Google local dramatic groups or search a comprehensive list at Drama Groups.
Volunteer as a Book Reader
You could volunteer to promote reading at an elementary school.
You would read to children, listen to them reading or distribute books. You can do it online in booked sessions or in person.
Visit the Doorstep Library to find out more. You will need to go through a rigorous acceptance process.
Like any volunteering, it can be counter-productive for all parties, if you do it once and give up.
Work at an Animal Sanctuary
You don’t have to like animals to make a difference, although obviously it helps, as at the RSPCA, for example, there are a number of roles you can support. If you fancy travelling, you can get involved with animal protection.
Check out organisations such as Volunteer World.
Be an Extra
Big screen or small screen, there is always a demand for Extras.
You join an Agency, such as Mad Dog Casting, The Casting Collective or Phoenix Casting, there is a fee for joining but that is deducted from your first wages.
If selected, be prepared to be flexible, patient, willing to take direction and on set for a full day.
You’ll get a good idea of that’s involved from any of these agencies.
If you don’t fancy being on screen, then become a member of the audience at one of your favourite TV shows. Whoever the broadcaster is, just search on their site to apply as a member of the audience. Most shows do take far longer to record than what is broadcast.
Own a racehorse
This is not as daunting financially as you might think as there are a number of different entry levels.
Although, whatever you do invest, be prepared to write it off, it certainly isn’t an investment.
However, if you like horseracing, it’s great fun and the best way to get involved is to join a horseracing syndicate.
You may only own a hoof but you will enjoy the benefits of ownership – stable visits and race days as an owner. The Racehorse Owners Association has all the details of the various ways you can get involved. If you join a syndicate, find out how many are involved and what the terms are so you know what your costs and benefits are.
Join A Community Garden
Gardening is known for it’s benefits for mind and body. You may not have a garden so joining a community garden could be the answer.
Good to Grow has a map of community gardens and advice on how to join.
If you have any suggestions for our bucket list posts, please do tell us and it will be much appreciated.
