Discover how seniors can stay active and engaged. It could be something you have been meaning to do for a while or an activity you just want to try.
Here are a few ideas to consider for your list if you are 65+.
Try going Vegan
Can help with weight loss, lower risk of heart disease and reduce chance of getting some cancers. If you try and it’s not for you at least your tried. If you want some recipes, you’ll find plenty at BBC Good Food.
Take an Artistic Challenge
Whether it be Painting, Ceramics, Sketching/drawing, Mosaics, Woodcraft, Clay modelling or Beading, Knitting, Crocheting, Embroidery, Quilt making or Jewellery making.
Try once and it might become a new hobby.
Learn a Magic Trick
YouTube is awash with magic tricks, so find a few best suited to your audience such as grandchildren.
Children become entranced by magic. If you want to become more proficient there are books on learning magic like Mark Wilson’s Complete Course in Magic or Joshua Jay’s MAGIC: The Complete Course or visit a magic store.
Create Your Desert Island Disc
Something to give your relations. You choose eight songs, a book and a luxury item to take to a Desert Island. The songs should mean something to you, perhaps, an event or period in your life.
You write up what your choices are and why there are meaningful. You can put a link to the song from streams like YouTube, Spotify, Apple music etc
Organise a beach or local park clean up
Here is some advice about how to organise one or there are organisations who coordinate clean-ups. Visit the Marine Conservation Society
Join A Community Garden
Gardening is known for it’s benefits for mind and body. You may not have a garden so joining a community garden could be the answer.
Good to Grow has a map of community gardens and advice on how to join.
Have an experience day
There are any number of different experiences you can try, such as driving a supercar, taking flying lessons, touring a football ground, sea fishing or something less physical like designing your own perfume, taking a one-day pottery course. All these can be done on your own or with others and offered by company’s such as https://www.virginexperiencedays.co.uk/ or https://www.redletterdays.co.uk/
Declutter your home
We all have stuff that we haven’t used or worn for a long time.
Clothes can be cyclical, we may not have worn them for some time or even forgotten we had them, so before throwing them away or donating to a charity, wear them a couple of times and then decide.
Declutter bit by bit rather than all in one go and take your time before deciding what you are going to do with items – throw away, give to charity, sell on eBay or auction or give to a relative or friend.
Please help with suggestions, so we can grow the list.
