Here are a some of our suggestions. Tell us your challenges.
Go in a Hot Air Balloon
Not necessarily a cheap goal, but you’ll experience the sky and views over the landscape on a different level.
With some packages offering champagne and food, it’s an attractive bucket list idea to tick off.
Learn to Scuba Dive
It takes three to four days to earn your Open Water Certificate and that allows you to dive anywhere in the world.
The course involves elements of theoretical study, practice dives in a pool or pool-like environment, and four dives in open water.
You can find out more at The British Scuba Diving Association and Freedom Diving is a useful site not just for lessons but also for diving trips, most of which are in the UK..
Dog Sledding
Go on a dog sledding expedition. So if you travelling to a Scandinavian country or Iceland this would be fun and most trips last 60-90 minutes.
You don’t get to drive the sled, that is done by the musher but you’ll get the chance to sit next to the musher.
Equus life coaching
This based on the relationship between the human and the horse in a way that allows the human to learn about himself. This is best done in the USA. Here’s an inspiring story that might get you interested and if you’re prepared to go further afield, then from personal experience here is a recommendation with the original horse whisperer, Monty Roberts.
Firewalking
Well we did say some of these would be challenging!
Providing you walk across at the right pace -you’ll do so without so much as a blister. The benefits? It takes you out of your comfort zone and heightens your self-responsibility.
If you can do this, you can do other challenges. This is where you can do it in the UK – ukfirewalk.com or add it to your holiday itinerary.
Boxing
This may conjure images of two people knocking seven bells out of each but you’re never going to be a Tyson Fury.
There are some good benefits for the elderly if you take up boxing.
It helps with balancing and strengthening, hand eye coordination improves, sharpens the brain with immediate memory and recall improvements.
You could shadow box at home as your general workout. More about the health benefits
Just google to find out where your local boxing gym may be.
Take Flying Lessons
Not something for the faint-hearted but one to tick off the list.
With plenty of schools around it’s not hard to find somewhere to take up lessons.
However, it is a serious commitment of both your time and money so it’s important to do your research and make informed decisions about your training.
If your serious, find out more at The Civil Aviation Authority.
Learn to ride a horse
Horse Riding has a number of benefits – it’s a good cardiovascular workout, burns calories, lowers blood pressure and is relaxing.
You should assess whether you are physically able to ride and control a horse. Any horse riding school will make sure you are on a horse suited to you.
