Take A Saga Cruise

This is an Over 50’s line which also caters for singles.

More than 20 per cent of cabins on Saga’s smart, modern ships are allocated to singles — and each one has a private balcony.

One of the reasons travellers like cruises is that virtually everything is paid for including all dining, drinks, all entertainment, crew tips, wi-fi, chauffeur to and from the port, selected shore excursions and travel insurance.

If Saga isn’t your thing but the idea of a cruise is, then here are some others to consider:

  • Avalon Waterways – River Cruises that offer a bit more such as hiking, kayaking and cycling tours, while dining on board is open-seating — something that’s a rarity on river cruises.
  • Hurtigruten – coastal itineraries sail between Bergen and Kirkenes, right up by the Russian border, with lots of stops in tiny villages along the way. Superlative scenery is always in sight, from waterfalls cascading down the sheer cliffs of the fjords to the sleepy harbours and rocky shores of the Lofoten Islands. In winter, there’s an excellent chance of seeing the northern lights.
  • Silversea – At the luxury end of cruising with intuitive service, a wide choice of restaurants, swish cocktail bars and lavish amounts of deck space all contribute to a sense of class. Each ship is beautifully designed, with Italian flair and spacious, all-suite accommodation.

In addition there are the big cruise liners such as Cunard – good if you want to cross the Atlantic or P&O for sailing from Southampton with a choice of destinations.

Places to consider for a cruise – Greece with Star Clippers pottering around Greek Islands, UAE with MSC and short trips between ports, Alaska with Regent Seven Seas Cruises for excellent wildlife viewing, Caribbean with Seabourn for excursions and exceptional food.

Visit one of the Modern Wonders of the World

Only one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world remains standing: the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Fortunately, there are a seven new wonders you can visit. Consider a trip to Machu Picchu, Chichén Itzá, the Colosseum, Christ the Redeemer, the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal, or the City of Petra.

Go on a Safari

Head out to Africa and see some of the world’s most exotic animals.

Safaris give the opportunity to see Africa’s big five – lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalo, and elephants – as well as so many others.

The great migration which takes place from July to November is one of the great sights. To find out more, visit https://extraordinaryjourneys.com/ where you can also discover other great journeys.

Visit a local attraction

Often, we ignore what’s available locally and it’s easy to miss out on a lot of things – an event, museum or art exhibition. Ask others who live locally if they have any recommendations.
