Yellowstone

A Western that is beautifully shot starring Kevin Costner. Unheralded when it first aired in the USA, it became the most popular show. Costner is the patriarch of a family of ranchers who are constantly under siege from politicians compromised by influential oil and lumber corporations and developers wanting his land.

Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect, the property is in constant conflict with those it borders – an expanding town and Indian reservation.

Told over five series, it’s a slow burner to begin with but well worth perseverance.

There are two prequels to Yellowstone – 1883 and 1923 – the latter starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

Frasier Reboot

Such was the success of the original Frasier series that it was never going to be easy with a revival.

The original series, a contender for the best ever sitcom, revolved around the diversity of the characters that revolved around Frasier and his brother Niles, two narcistic psychiatrists. The reboot doesn’t have that depth or perhaps it just takes time to engender the same affection. If you loved Frasier (episodes available on Channel 4) it’s worth giving this a chance.

The Offer

A dramatization of how the classic Francis Ford Coppola film The Godfather got made.

There may be some licence taken with the facts, but the show does capture the age and the portrait of the historic production as well as the complex individuals who brought it to life.

That Animal Rescue Show

A documentary series that explores the animal rescue community in and around Austin, Texas. It tells moving, humorous and powerful stories of animals and the humans who love them.

The episodes transport audiences to a ranch where humans heal alongside goats, a pioneering no-kill shelter that has saved the lives of 80,000 dogs and cats, an arena where children with disabilities learn to walk with the help of horses and a program in which female prisoners find second chances alongside rescue puppies.

The series is as much about rescuing animals as it is  about the animals who rescue them.

Joe Pickett

A well made series about a small-town game warden in Wyoming.

He gets embroiled in a political powder keg as a series of murders pits the residents against one another in a conflict that threatens to destroy the community.

Joe Pickett is a simple family man who is not afraid to do the right thing even if it pits him against local authorities. What makes this series is that you may think you know what is going to happen but that’s rarely the case.

The Good Fight

The series picks up one year after the events in the final episode of The Good Wife.

Two of the characters from The Good Wife are forced to join another legal team after a financial scam. Whilst it’s similar to other US legal dramas, somehow these shows are a cut above what is produced in the UK and that’s largely due to the quality of writing.

Paramount + is also the home of many classic shows such as Cheers, numerous Star Trek series, Homeland and Billions.
