Discover a summary of our exercise articles for older adults

As we get older, so exercise becomes more important for healthy living. We’ve published a number of articles specifically for those aged 65+ which can all be found in our Look After Your Body section.

Here is a summary of a few of those articles. Use the link to access the full article.

Weekly Exercise Routine

The problem with a lot of exercise routines is they can become tedious after a while, that’s certainly my experience, so a varied routine may be the answer. Our weekly routine differs day by day and involves simple aids like resistance bands, pedal exercisers and a chair. These are exercises designed for mobility, strength, balance, and flexibility.

This could help turn a chore into a benefit.

Chair Yoga

A while ago, I joined a Beginners Yoga class, and I was absolutely exhausted after just 20 of the 60 minutes!

Perhaps I should have started with Chair Yoga which is a gentle introduction. Also I should have questioned my motivation which I could have done by reading our article on the subject.

Attending a class of any description, and you’ll find some suggestions in our Things To Do section, can increase your commitment especially if you do so with a friend.

Not so much strength in numbers but in commitment.

Ashamed about your Body

I think most of us would agree that we used to look better 30 years ago and although many can grow old gracefully, for those who are self-conscious about their looks and physique, it can be a serious inhibitor to enjoying life.

Whilst exercise plays its part in overcoming body shame, you’ll find many other suggestions in this article to help restore your sense of worth and confidence.

Tai Chi Exercise for Beginners

Graceful is not a word normally associated with typical exercise conducted by those of our age, so here is an opportunity to transform that association. There are seven postures in our Tai Chi article to get you started, and they may inspire you to join a class where the graceful movements can inject some serenity in your life.

Equally beneficial is Qigong and our article for beginners can set you on the path toward balance and well-being.

Good Exercise Technique

The belief that we should exercise more as we grow older can lead us to the swimming pool, bicycle, jogging or walking as our exercise of choice.

Whatever the pick, good technique is a must to avoid injury caused by our over exuberance. With that in mind, we have an article on best practice when it comes to cycling or swimming and if running or walking is your choice. And yes, walking, that most natural of movement, can be even more beneficial with good technique whatever the pace.

Choosing an Exercise Bike

Exercise Bikes are not the only option as an aid to kick start our routine, but there is good reason for them being the most popular. They come in all manner of ranges and costs so read our article to discover what might best suit you.

They can cost anything  from £50 to well over a £1,000 so a bit of due diligence is advised.

I use an Exercise Bike (£150) and Dumbbells and for tips and benefits of the strength building aid read our article – Dumbbells a Great Way to Build Strength.

So these are just some of the exercise articles and there are many more in our Look After Your Body section.
