Podcast content increases in growth and now nearly all media outlets have a podcast section so here’s our review of podcasts that we have enjoyed and are widely available.

The Rest is Politics

Hosted by former Downing Street Director of Communications and Strategy Alastair Campbell and former cabinet minister Rory Stewart who join forces across the divide for some lively debate. Apart from the intelligence of the two presenters, what makes this particularly interesting is the insight to topical issues based on their experience.

The News Agents

Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel and Lewis Goodall – three of the UK’s top journalists – host a daily news podcast: The News Agents. They’re not just here to tell you what’s happening, but why.

Sweet Bobby

A true story of a woman who for a decade was the subject of a catfish (when someone assumes a different identity on the internet) for the purpose of deception. You may wonder how someone could be misled for so long but it’s entirely believable and equally unbelievable that catfishing is not a criminal offence in the UK.

Wild Things – Siegfried and Roy

Siegfried and Roy were magicians and entertainers who used white lions and tigers as part of their Vegas act until one of the tigers attacked Siegfried. This podcast reveals hidden truths about the pair who were lampooned by the media, endlessly scrutinised by the public and had ticket sales worth more than a billion.

Filthy Ritual

If you were told by a healer that you are in danger of developing a cancer and must send thousands and thousands of pounds to a Shaman in Surinam who will then pin this cash to a sacred tree – Would you do it? I’m sure you wouldn’t but many did and this six – part podcast tells the story of one of the most prolific con women in British history.

Alan Carr “Life’s A Beach”

The concept is simple, comedian Alan Carr chats to a famous guest  about their travel experiences and favourite places in the world. It works so well because Carr is so adept at chatting with guests, many of whom are personal friends. It’s also very funny, though the language can be as fruity as the anecdotes they tell.
