Ticked Off. A new drug may provide relief for sufferers of Lyme disease.

A new drug may be the answer to Lyme Disease.

A pill that kills ticks has shown positive results in a human trial, giving hope it may protect against Lyme disease.

The tick-borne disease, for which there is no human vaccine, causes fatigue, fever and, in severe cases, facial paralysis. Up to 3,500 cases are diagnosed every year in the UK.

In February the California-based Tarsus Pharmaceuticals found that its drug — a new formulation of lotilaner, a parasite killer for pets — can kill ticks on people 24 hours after they take the medication, with the effects lasting for up to 30 days.
